Architecture lessons on Superbowl Monday

After another run over the bridge this morning, I rushed back to catch our 9 am tour of the Opera House. I absolutely DREAD guided tours, but found this one too be short, sweet, and particularly interesting. The history of the architecture of the opera house is pretty extensive and its construction lasted over 14 years. It's also cool to note that it doesn't just serve for classic theatrical purposes but a wide range of entertainment from big bands to Ellen DeGeneres tapings. Kings of Convenience is even playing on Thursday. After the theatre tour, we hopped on a ferry to the Taronga Zoo, which is huge and has every animal you can think of. Elephants, lions, tigers, oh my. Then it was off to a pub in downtown to watch the last half of the Super Bowl, (which to my dismay, SF lost). Suprisingly, we had to stop at 3 bars before arriving at Jackson because of over capacity. I didn't realize American football was so popular over here. After a nice afternoon buzz, my mom decided it would be a good idea to walk over to the Sydney History Museum (more like buzz-kill). I decided half way through that I would venture off to the Australian Contemporary Museum of Art, which was more my scene. Taboo was the featured exhibit, which addressed problematic issues through art, such as apartheid in South Africa and the displacement of Aborigines here in Australia. There's definitely a parallel between the aborigines here and the Native Americans in the USA, where tension still exists.

Although I'm beginning to get a bit tired of the whole sight seeing thing, i'm learning a lot and keeping the mum happy. Except by the end of this i'm going to need to surround myself with lots of young people and heavy drinking. Ended the night seeing the Hobbit in the IMAX theatre cuz i'm crazy like that.

Off to the Outback in the morning. Destination: Ayers Rock. Hoping its going to be like Palm Springs?? One can hope. YEWWWW.
